The Power of Stories

Have you ever wondered how you could get others to agree with your perspective? Have you wanted to convince readers to take your point of view?

Storytelling is one of the best ways of doing this. Personally, I’m not all that great with stories. I mean, I’ve written a number of stories but I’ve never quite felt comfortable enough with them to share them all with others. I’m not quite sure why, but I do know that it is something that holds me back a bit.

The best books out there are the one’s that tell stories – and I’m not even talking about fiction books. I’m talking about any book. A book titled “How to Make Money and Improve Your Life” would be dry if it relied wholly on steps and statistics…which is why people never write books like that. Everybody who writes a book knows that it will only sell if it is compelling.

Stories are compelling.

Try working them into your articles and see what kind of response you get. Sure, it won’t be perfect from the start – but it is something that could greatly benefit your writing in the end.

Brian Clark of Copyblogger points out:

Storytelling is really a catch-all technique…The reason why storytelling works so well lies at the heart of what persuasion really is.

Stories allow people to persuade themselves, and that’s what it’s really all about. You might say that we never convince anyone of anything—we simply help others independently decide that we’re right. Do everything you can to tell better stories, and you’ll find that you are a terribly persuasive person.

Through storytelling, your articles will not only be more interesting, but also more persuasive. I hope I can better incorporate them into my writing as well.
