Dilbert Delivers
Did you know that Dilbert had a blog?
I never, until I searched google for “business writing advice blog” in search of a topic for a blog post on here. There it was, Dilbert’s blog, by Scott Adams (the cartoonist).
Not only did I find the blog cool, but it was actually interesting as well. Seriously, the guy had some great advice.
In his blog post from June 16, 2007, entitled “The Day You Became A Better Writer,” Scott Adams delivered a very honest and helpful post:
Business writing is about clarity and persuasion. The main technique is keeping things simple. Simple writing is persuasive. A good argument in five sentences will sway more people than a brilliant argument in a hundred sentences. Don’t fight it.
There is power in simplicity – power that we can all grow to strengthen not only our writing, but our businesses. When you’re writing advice, remember to keep things simple. Don’t overwhelm your readers with harsh diction or ambiguity. Instead, transform your writing to a style that is easy to understand without removing the essence of your message.
