The World Wide Web of Networking

The internet, as you know, has changed the business world in a number of ways. Not only can businesses sell their products worldwide, but they can also network with professionals that are on the other side of the world.

It is quite likely that you’ve heard of Facebook, Myspace, or LinkedIn. However, it’s unlikely that any of these have fully satisfied your appetite for online networking. The whole point of networking is to create relationships and gain business. If these sites aren’t fulfilling those goals, then you’ve got to take a reality check. You either have to change what you’re doing while still using the same service or you need to look into other alternatives – or both.

If you think that you can still use social networking sites to promote yourself, then you should read up on how to make them work best for what you’re wanting to accomplish. WebWorkerDaily.com has some tips on how to promote your business using Facebook, these tips can also be carried over to other online networks.

While using online social networks can be a great tool for success, I’ve found that there are more effective networks that can be built through other online services. There are thousands of websites out there that are looking for content to use on their site and keep their page relevant. If you’re a professional in a field that relates to their content, then you should try and submit articles to those sites or at least discuss the possibility of getting involved. While this may not seem like something that would build a relationship, it is surprisingly effective.

The more you write for people, whether it is for money or for free, the more you will get to know them and their readers. You will establish yourself someone that they can trust and someone that they can go to for other issues in your industry. If you’re writing for the sole purpose of having your name and website mentioned at the bottom of an article, it is still worth it.

I’ll write a bit more on this tomorrow, so make sure and come back to see the update on how you can create effective online networks.
