Marketing You!
Marketing is a major part of the business world. However, so is personality. People respond more to relationships than any other form of marketing, which is why networking and word-of-mouth marketing has become so effective.
I’ve already emphasized the benefits of advice articles on this blog. Something I haven’t gone into great depth about, however, is adding you into the mix.
While people enjoy getting advice from experts – they also appreciate seeing the personality of the writer. Here are three ways to make your writing come across as you:
1. Write it Yourself
Although you might not be a great writer, this is still an important factor in coming across as genuine and likable. Sure, the intern might be an English major, but they won’t be able to come across as having years of experience in the industry, nor will they have your voice.
2. Write Like You Speak
Many people completely change their diction and style when comparing the way they talk to the way they speak. While you won’t want to include the “ummms”, “errrr”, or grammatical errors – you still want to sound natural. Don’t stuff in oversized words for the sole-purpose of trying to sound like an expert. You are an expert! Write things the way you would speak them, although you might want to add a bit of structure.
3. Talk About Your Experiences
Stories sell! While you might sound like an expert with your product knowledge, you won’t fully come across as one until you’re telling stories about what you’ve done in the industry and how you’ve solved people’s problems. This will add a lot of depth to your articles and will make them much more interesting and personal.
