Promoting Your Business Through Giveaways

When I was a kid I would always beg my Mom to purchase the breakfast cereal that came with a prize inside. Why? Because I wanted to win something.

Everybody wants to win things. I know people who’ve bought snowboards for free bindings, cars for a years worth of free gas, and houses for the pool table that was being left inside. Well, maybe they never made the purchase solely because of the freebie that was added in, but in each case it was a factor, sometimes even the tipping point.

Freebies feel great, but the thing that business owners often struggle with is how to give them away in the most effective way possible. First, let’s define effective: the customers get a value added bonus that they feel great about while you, the business owner, are able to put them into a catchment area. A catchment area, in this case, symbolizes a transaction of some kind with a client where your either receive their money, contact information, or other item of value to you.

You want customers and customers want value, right? For both parties to get what they want, you need to take the initiative. Find a value add-on that they will appreciate. For online businesses this can come in many forms: a free iPod for those who comment often on a blog, a free Ebook for those who sign up for your newsletter, etc.

While the term “giveaway” sounds one sided, it really is not. Giveaways will boost your business in ways that you could not imagine.
