Keep it Simple

When you are writing an article that is intended to promote your business, you want to keep it specific to one topic. People don’t want to read about everything you do in one sitting, it is overwhelming. By keeping your article simple, you will be able to control your reader’s attention more effectively.

If you are writing an article, make sure and focus on a topic that is relevant to your clients needs. It is important to keep the topic focussed on what they want, rather than telling them what you’re about. This is one of the main reasons why advice articles are so much more effective than press releases. By writing an advice article, you can address questions that your potential clients might have without being considered a salesmen, but rather an expert.

To begin writing an article, you should ask yourself: “what one thing do I get asked about the most” (in a “how-to” kind of way). For a mechanic, their friends may ask them how to do an oil change. A chiropractor may get asked the most effective way to reduce risk of back injury. Everybody has something that they can teach others.

You don’t need to get into the most advanced type of advice. In fact, the more difficult the material the less readers you will get. For example, it is very unlikely that a mechanic would get asked how to rebuild an engine; most people don’t care to know that kind of thing.

Keep your articles specific, common, and applicable.
