Importance of Courtship period

Marriage is the most beautiful decision, a couple takes for being together for lifetime. It is the point in life, where a boy and girl, are loaded with the responsibility of taking care of each other and their families. The bride and the groom are extremely excited about their new bond and thereafter the married life, which they are supposed to spend with each other. The first ceremony which binds the bride and groom for the marriage is the roka or the engagement ceremony, which marks as the first step towards the scared bond of wedding. The time period between the roka and the final marriage ceremony is called the courtship period. This is known to be the most romantic and exciting period for the couple. This is the time, when they get to know each other and form a bond of sharing and understanding between them.

Courtship period in case of arranged marriages is said to be of great use, because the bride and groom are strangers to each other and this is the only time, which can make them travel the journey of strangers to friends to lovers and then finally life partners. The journey is very crucial and each step taken has to be measured, because marriage is a very precious relation, which needs extra care. The bond can be very strong and weak at the same time, therefore it needs to be taken care of, for which steps has to be taken from both sides. Starting from the first day, steps can go as follows:

v In the very first days, the bride and groom should devote as much as possible time to understand each other. Marriage brings together not only two beings, but it is a bond between two different families. Therefore, bride and groom should try and understand each other’s family cultures and the practises followed. Understanding each other’s nature, behaviour and attitude towards various things is also important. It is very usual for such couples to be on phone for several hours or even for the whole day. In fact, it is said, the more understanding they form in the courtship period, better and easier it gets for them to deal with their married life

v Though understanding is a life long process, but after some time, the bride and groom gets to understand the highs and lows of the life partner can share their secrets with the bride or the groom. This would make them get closer emotionally and they would be able to relate different moments of their life with their fiancée. This also helps in bringing up the common traits between the bride and groom, so that they can cherish the moments spent together in a better way.

v Moving further, the bride and groom starts dating each other with or without the permission of their parents, which is very necessary to bring intimacy in their new relation, which is very important for the relation to grow. Small steps towards each other can result in the achievement of the biggest step, i.e. marriage.

Also, supporting each other and trying to understand the lifestyle of their life partner, can help them attaining the feeling of togetherness. The bride and groom are always asked to be loyal towards each other and should have a very strong bond, which has no space for misunderstandings. Also, giving proper space to the life partner is essential, to give let the relation breathe properly. Like a human being wants oxygen to live, same ways marriages require space to prosper and grow towards happiness in the journey of married life. Therefore, a proper utilisation of courtship period should be done by the bride and groom to have a successful married life.
