Psychology is an additional subject offered to students of Plus Two or equivalent level with other social sciences and statistics. After schooling, one can take up psychology at graduation level as an Honors subject in most universities. Once graduation is complete, students can opt for an MA or MSc in Psychology, Social work or Counseling. Specializations in the subject can be pursued at the post graduate level or at the doctoral level- M.Phil or Ph.D, after post graduation. Post graduate courses in psychology are offered to students who have graduated in psychology. Main emphasis of a post-graduate or a doctoral degree in Psychology is on research. For those who are not willing to put too many years of study, there are one year Diploma courses and institutes for psychology in Special Education or Mental Retardation.

For a Bachelor Degree programme in psychology – minimum qualification required is10+2
For a Post-graduate degree in psychology – minimum qualification required is Bachelor degree in psychology
For Ph.D./ M.Phil in psychology – minimum qualification required is PG or Diploma in psychology

Duration:

Graduation in psychology is a 3 year course
Post graduation is of 2 years and during the course, a student is supposed to pursue specialization in a special branch of psychology
M.Phil or Ph.D. is of a 2 year programme
